The latest low-power radio modules from Radiocrafts are reckoned to be the smallest in the industry

Now available from 2001 Wireless, the RC1040, RC1080 and RC1090 series of modules feature a 0.5in2 footprint and provide a low-cost, low-power, two-way radio solution with an embedded protocol. The completely shielded modules made for surface mounting measure only 12.7 x 25.4 x 3.5mm. Data buffering, addressing and error check are all handled by the embedded RC232T protocol via a standard UART serial bus interface to the host.

The RC1040 and RC1080 are designed for operation in the licence free bands in Europe at 433 and 868MHz, respectively, whereas the RC1090 operates under FCC regulations for use in USA and Canada at 902-928MHz.

The modules are multichannel transceivers with up to nine channels, 10dBm output power and -100dBm sensitivity at 19.2Kbit/s.

The tiny modules offer a range of advantages to the customer.

OEMs can now easily add low-cost wireless communications to their space-limited products without RF design knowledge, and significantly reduce time to market and development cost.

The very low power consumption gives extended battery lifetime and the built in protocol relieves the host system of processing.

The modules are suitable for pick and place automatic assembly for volume production and are available on tape and reel.

Typical applications include home, building and industrial automation, automatic meter reading, remote control and telemetry, fleet and asset management.
