Esmertec has signed a new three-year Java licensing agreement with Sun Microsystems, signifying its continued commitment to provide best-in-class Java software solutions
Esmertec first certified a Sun device in 1999. Since 2003, Esmertec has been a full Java licensee, delivering Jbed, a valued Java virtual machine (JVM), to handset, embedded device and chipset manufacturers worldwide. As of the end of June 2006, Jbed has been integrated in over 190 mobile device models.

Five of the six leading handset manufacturers are shipping phones with Esmertec's innovative technology, making it one of the most successful runtime platforms for mobile phones and embedded devices.
This new agreement enables Esmertec to continue offering Java-software solutions compliant with the Java ME (Java Platform, Micro Edition) standards; a standard that is defined and managed by Sun Microsystems.
