FlexIt is a novel modular embedded development and control system based on the popular Atmel AVR family of controllers.
FlexIt includes all the ancillary circuitry to get up and running fast.
FlexIt takes a building block approach to constructing digital systems with analogue capabilities.
The developer can choose from an ever-increasing range of modules to suit their application and simply plug them together.
Software can be written using any third-party tool (the open source AVRGCC C compiler is actively supported by Ennovi) and programmed into the AVR Flash memory in-system.
Software drivers are supplied to run communications between blocks.
The developer is free to concentrate on the top-level design.
The modular approach of FlexIt comprises three types of building blocks: platforms, processor modules (called ProMods) and function modules (called FuncMods).
Platform boards form the base of a system.
ProMods and FuncMods are plugged into a platform to build the developer's application.
Available platforms range from general development boards to application specific, such as: embedded Internet, relay drivers and motor drivers.
Ennovi offers a custom platform design service to add extra flexibility for developers.
ProMods contain the AVR controller.
There are three to choose from: the FlexMini based on the AT90S2313, the FlexMidi based on the ATmega16/32 and the FlexMax based on the ATmega128.
These offer 2, 16 or 128Kbyte of program memory, respectively.
ProMods contain all the ancillary circuitry to run independently.
Once programmed and powered a ProMod is a mini controller in its own right.
FuncMods are dedicated expansion modules.
They add extra peripherals to a FlexIt system such as Flash storage, extra digital I/O, analogue I/O and USB communication.
FlexIt offers: fast and straightforward development of simple or complex electronic systems; state-of-the-art technical specifications; compact size; cost effectiveness, compared with conventional system development methodologies; fast prototyping and "look see" trials; easy progression to volume product design; and support through e-mail and web user groups The FlexIt system is fully supported on the Ennovi website.
