The first recipients of the Ray Hall Spirit of ERA Award were presented with the first Spirit Awards at the 2006 Electronics Industry Sales and Marketing Conference last month in Tampa, Florida

The first recipients of the Ray Hall Spirit of ERA Award, Mark Motsinger, CPMR, of Wallace Electronic Sales, and Mark Conley of O'Donnell Associates North, were presented with the first Spirit Awards at the 2006 electronics industry Sales and Marketing Conference last month in Tampa, Florida.

Motsinger and Conley were selected from a field of nine nominations submitted by ERA chapters, product groups and national officers.

The award judges were ERA Hall of Fame members Tim Eyerman, CPMR, Jess Spoonts and Bob Trinkle.

The new award was established in 2004 with contributions made to 'Au Rayvoir', a special event ERA hosted in Phoenix to salute Ray Hall on his pending retirement after 40 years as the association's CEO.

Hall asked that proceeds of that event be used to create an award to recognise individuals who exemplify the 'Spirit of ERA'.

The award criteria specify that recipients will be recognised for their consistent commitment and unselfish contributions to advancing the professional field sales function, both within and beyond ERA.

Motsinger, ERA's past National President and Chairman, is a board member of the Electronic Distribution Show and Conference (EDS) and frequent speaker at industry events.

He has also often worked with the academic community as a speaker and research consultant on projects to improve faculty members' and students' understanding of the outsourced field sales function.

Conley, who is now the ERA national board delegate for the Northern California chapter, is also serving his fifth year on the ERA Conference Programme Committee.

He chaired that committee in 2004 and has also represented ERA as a speaker at several recent Supply Network Conferences.

Both men are considered by their peers as valued mentors and exemplary rep firm owners.

Included with their awards, Motsinger, the recipient for 2005, and Conley, the honouree for 2006, each received scholarships to attend the recent sales and marketing conference.

That event was cosponsored by ERA and the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA) as an educational forum for reps, distributors and manufacturers.
