Elma has developed a new ETSI-compliant system platform for AdvancedTCA applications. backplanes for ATCA have to meet stringent requirements for data transfer rate and signal integrity. At the heart of the Elma's 13U system is a newly developed 16-slot full mesh monolithic-construction backplane.
Both the power entry modules (PEM) and the two shelf management controllers provided are pluggable.
The high-grade backplane material has an Er of 3.8.
This, combined with optimal design of the backplane routing, enable a low board thickness of only 3.2mm to be achieved, so minimising the stub effect and ensuring optimal signal integrity.
The airflow guidance system, as well as efficient, redundant fan units ensure efficient cooling, even with high dissipation losses from the active cards.
Users simply have to plug in their own specific cards, provide the supply and start tests and applications straight away.
With the new 16-slot variant, Elma has expanded its backplane programme for ATCA, which now includes two-, four-, five-, 14- and 16-slot backplanes and covers dual-star, dual-dual-star, full mesh and replicated mesh (for backplanes with less than eight slots) topologies.
The designs of all the backplanes described here have been optimised for the highest signal integrity - this has been verified and confirmed in extensive tests.
They comply with the PICMG 3.0 specifications.
Of course, additional customised solutions are also available.
