Developers who want to rapidly implement low cost industrial communications solutions can now use EBV Elektronik's DBC1C12 evaluation board. The board incorporates Altera Corp's low-cost Cyclone EP1C12 FPGA and an evaluation version of the Nios II embedded processor core, delivering the necessary resources to develop complex industrial and communications solutions quickly and easily. The evaluation board also has sufficient resources to save programmes and data: 16Mbyte of SDRAM (32bit) and 8Mbyte of Flash memory (16bit).

The evaluation board includes a number of serial interfaces for communication with other system components, including 10/100Mbit/s Ethernet, RS232 and RS485, as well as CAN and I2C interfaces.

Customised interfaces or expansion cards can be connected to the evaluation board via two pin headers with 12 I/O connections each.

To make it easier to develop customised system solutions, EBV Elektronik offers several Nios II reference designs with the evaluation board.

These currently include a web-server application based on the OpenCore Ethernet MAC Core and a CAN controller, with more to follow.

The reference designs show how to easily implement SoPC (system on a programmable chip) designs.The package includes: Quartus II Web Edition, including SOPC Builder and Nios II Evaluation tools.The DBC1C12 evaluation board is 80 x 80mm and is delivered with the Byteblaster II programming adapter and a 220V mains adapter.
