Datum has introduced a CDMA option for its TymServe 2100 network timeserver

The CDMA receiver, embedded in the TymServe 2100, acquires time from CDMA basestations instead of directly from GPS satellites. As a result, no rooftop antenna, which is susceptible to lightning and other risks, is required. This approach essentially eliminates installation costs of the system, as there is no antenna cable to run and no periodic maintenance of the antenna and cabling due to weather or other events.

Using the same signals as cellular telephones, CDMA basestations act as repeaters for GPS signals, thereby eliminating "urban canyon" affects that can degrade GPS performance in densely populated areas.

TymServe 2100 only requires the time elements of CDMA, making this a stable and reliable time source, specially suited for urban areas.

"Network managers and system integrators appreciate the fact that the TymServe 2100 is a convenient, self-contained, rack mountable instrument", said Datum President Mike Patrick.

"The addition of the CDMA option provides our customers with additional flexibility when implementing their network timing system.

The fact that our customers don't have to install and maintain rooftop antennas is a big advantage over other systems".

The TymServe 2100 standard unit includes IRIG time code, 1PPS and 10MHz reference inputs and outputs, front panel display and a high-stability internal oscillator.

Time is distributed using TCP/IP Network Time Protocol (NTP) and is accurate to within 100us.

Network management tools include SNMP with a custom MIB II extension, remote Telnet access, dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), and MD5 access authentication.
