Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:

Despite the immediacy of Internet-based information gathering, I know there are many of you who are just as comfortable with requesting conventional catalogues, brochures and datasheets through the post.

So from today we're introducing our "Request a free brochure by post" service: if a product we mention in the Electronicstalk Newsletter interests you as much as it obviously did us, and you'd like a brochure or catalogue, just click on the link shown and you'll be taken to a web page where you can fill in your name and address, and we'll take care of the rest.

The good bit is that if you want to request further brochures on other products, there's no need to fill in your name and address again: this time it'll just be a couple of clicks and you're done.

I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. In addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can.

Alternatively, the full stories behind all the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.

Best wishes

OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. Core cuts cost and complexity of Bluetooth SoCs

The DesignWare BlueIQ core is a complete solution enabling designers to quickly add Bluetooth capability to SoC designs. DesignWare BlueIQ offloads the host CPU of all real-time Bluetooth activity by providing an intelligent integrated subsystem that includes baseband controller hardware, as well as the link manager software running on an included industry-standard microcontroller. Targeted at high-volume consumer applications, the BlueIQ architecture optimally partitions the application and Bluetooth processing, leading to significantly reduced application cost and power. The DesignWare BlueIQ Core provides a complete environment for SoC designers, including both VHDL and Verilog RTL source code for the baseband, as well as C-language source code for the link manager firmware that can reside in RAM, ROM or Flash memory. Also provided is a complete verification environment.

3. Reference design puts PSoC MCU on LINbus

Cypress MicroSystems has a reference design that enables automotive engineers to build advanced applications with LINbus (Local Interconnect Network) communication capabilities, using a single PSoC microcontroller. The LIN Protocol Specification Version 1.2 is a low-speed communications standard used in many automotive applications, including body control, driver information, multimedia, climate control, safety equipment, cockpit electronics and human machine interface (HMI). The software-configurable PSoC MCU can replace thousands of custom microcontrollers in a broad range of embedded systems - speeding time to market, reducing the number of chips and decreasing overall system cost.

4. Universal PCI high-speed communications card

The FarSync T2U is a very high performance intelligent bus-mastering universal PCI communications card that will support both 3.3 and 5V bus signalling. The card offers considerably improved performance at high line speeds compared with the current FarSync T2P card. The card, which can be configured for one or two ports, handles X.21, V.35 and V.24 physical network connections. The half-length card will work in 32bit, 64bit and PCI-X slots running at either 66 or 33MHz and will enable operation in newer 1U rack-mount PCs that have just a single 66MHz 3.3V PCI slot.

5. DC/DC convertor chipset meets latest Intel specs

The ADP3205 multiphase core controller and its previously introduced ADP3415 dual MOSFET driver form the first three-phase controller/driver chipset that is fully compliant with the Intel Mobile Voltage Positioning (IMVP)-IV specifications. The IMVP specifications are designed to maximise the operating time of notebook computers by carefully minimising the CPU's core voltage and frequency, thus scaling its performance to meet the demands of the system. Computer OEMs can now use the ADP3205 and ADP3415 to build a dedicated triple-phase core controller with balanced current sharing and superior transient response.
