Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:
We receive a number of questions each week from our readers, and try where possible at least to steer them in the right direction.
But every now and then a question comes up which causes more than the usual level of brain wracking.
Electronicstalk reader Justyn Batchelor writes: "I saw a display in a shop once consisting of a series of strip lights which emitted light when touched from the area of the tube being touched. I have been trying to recreate this effect with little success. If you are aware of this behaviour of strip lighting and how it may be achieved I would be very interested to know".
The worst part is that I for one can remember seeing such effects… but the old memory is failing a little. So can any of you help Justyn out? (Not to mention jogging my own memory!)
I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. We currently have almost 10,000 engineers and other industry professionals on the circulation, so you're in good company. In addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can.
But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
Best wishes

OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. World's first scalable analogue design platform
Anadigmvortex is the industry's first product family to enable the design and implementation of dynamically reconfigurable analogue circuits that deliver precision and scalability to embedded systems. Combining powerful new EDA software, configurable analogue modules (CAMs), and programmable silicon, Anadigmvortex reduces the time required for analogue design implementations from months to minutes. With this second-generation family, designers can construct complex analogue functions with a drag-and-drop EDA tool and adjust functionality directly in automatically generated C-code.

3. Connector ruggedised for industrial networks
The tough new Variosub-RJ45/IP67 connector from interconnect expert, Phoenix Contact, provides a convenient, reliable and cost-effective method of connecting telecommunication, Ethernet and other network services to equipment which is required to operate in demanding environments. To maximise versatility, and to ensure compatibility with existing crimp tools, the new connector uses the industry-standard RJ45 configuration. It has, however, an exceptional IP67 ingress protection rating, which means that it can operate reliably even if it is exposed to high-pressure water jets.

4. Front-to-back design flow meets SoC challenges
Mentor Graphics has introduced a major new release of its front-to-back IC design tools for analogue/mixed-signal (AMS) SoC designs. The increasing demand for more complex features in consumer electronics has fostered exponential growth in the amount of analogue content on mixed-signal SoCs. In order to address the challenges of these chips, Mentor Graphics has made AMS SoC design tools a core focus, and has added functionality to existing tools while developing cutting-edge new tools. With its industry-leading solutions, Mentor Graphics now offers the most complete IC design flow to ensure success for designers creating complex AMS SoC designs.

5. Compact board checks out microcontroller IP
QuickCores has developed the industry's first reprogrammable ASIC on a postage-stamp size circuit board that can be programmed with a vendor's microcontroller IP by simply downloading a specific design (including non-microcontroller designs) from the IP vendor's web site. As the Musketeer is directly compatible with STAPL files created by Actel's Libero design environment software, users can also create their own STAPL files and program them directly into the Musketeer using the host PC's RS232 port.
