Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:
Well. It is the silly season, I guess, but the response to my request for nominations of the best and worst websites has been a little surprising. Not that I'm surprised that the figurative electronic postbag isn't exactly bulging. It's more that nominations for the best are outnumbering those for the worst - by almost double. And that's after discounting those of you who have nominated Electronicstalk as one of the best sites on the web.
So let's get brutal. What really gets your proverbial goat?
Complaints so far have ranged from excessive use of pop-up adverts to one particular company which redesigned its site with such a "solutions" bias that it forgot to cater for existing clients that just wanted its boring old products.
So next week we'll close the postbag and confront some of the worst transgressors. We'll let you know if their responses are fit to print!
I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. We currently have thousands of engineers and other industry professionals on the circulation, so you're in good company. In addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can.
But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
Best wishes

OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. System simplifies coax connectivity
XMultiple Technologies has created novel interconnection technology called the X-RJAX. What makes the X-RJAX special is that it is the world's first and only coaxial-modular connector adapter system. Anyone who has tried to reach around the back of a TV set (especially if it is installed in a cabinet) and tried to line up and tighten an F connector linking the set to a cable TV system or to attach a VCR will know first hand just how difficult it can be. X-RJAX simplifies this by providing a modular plug and jack combo similar to the one used to attach a telephone to a wall plate.

3. Novel PLD trades logic and memory functions
The ispXPLD (in-system programmable expanded PLD) architecture is the first PLD architecture to allows users to efficiently trade-off fast logic and block memory resources. The novel architecture allows each multifunction block (MFB) to be used for logic functions (up to 32 macrocells per MFB) or memory functions (up to 16Kbit per MFB), yielding up to 1024 macrocells or 512Kbit of memory on a single device, equivalent to 300K system gates. The SuperWide architecture also supports functions of up to 136 inputs in a single level of logic, doubling the fan-in of any other PLD family and providing fast support for extremely wide buses and logic functions.

5. No crosstalk for speedy dual ADC
According to Analog Devices, at 65Msample/s the 12bit AD9238 is the industry's fastest dual-channel A/D convertor. The combination of the AD9238 with ADI's driver operational amplifiers gives engineers the advantage of complete solution sets for applications such as high-end medical imaging and multichannel wideband communications. The AD9238 - offered in 20, 40 and 65Msample/s speed grades - delivers the same outstanding dynamic performance found in two single ADCs while maintaining exceptional crosstalk immunity in a single space-efficient package.

6. Bulk carbon resistors handle automotive stresses
The high pulse withstanding capability of the CCR series of carbon composition resistors from Welwyn Components offers automotive designers a compact solution for applications involving high voltages and high-energy pulses. With the decline of the hot moulded carbon composition resistor, Welwyn's CCR series now offers the industry a direct replacement resistor based on a bulk resistive element comprising carbon in a ceramic filler.
