Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:
Fifteen months on, and Electronicstalk is gathering pace and accumulating milestones. Last week saw the 5000th subscriber sign up for the Electronicstalk Newsletter. This week will see the 5000th story posted on the Electronicstalk website.
This, of course, is where things start to get interesting. One of the most appealing aspects of the online publishing experience compared with the old paper-based world is the timelessness of most news. So Electronicstalk is not just the vehicle to bring you the latest news as fast as possible, it is fast becoming a comprehensive database of developments in the industry over the past 15 months.
Long ago (in a galaxy far away) I remember trying to produce an annual index for a weekly electronics newspaper. Needless to say I abandoned the task when it dawned on me that the filing life of the average weekly newspaper was not even measured in weeks, let alone months.
But now, if anything takes your fancy among the recent new items on Electronicstalk, with the help of our speedy search engine you can easily check for competing devices and even for compatible products, such as emulators for processors, for example.
And not a single tree was cut down (so long as you don't print this out!).
I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. We currently have thousands of engineers and other industry professionals on the circulation, so you're in good company. In addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can.
But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
Best wishes
Laurence Marchini, Editor

OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. Reconfigurable processors optimise DSP tasks
Elixent has released the DFA1000 family of accelerators, for use with standard RISC processors running DSP algorithms. Designed to deliver at least an order of magnitude improvement in performance over current leading DSPs, this is the first implementation of D-Fabrix, Elixent's reconfigurable signal processing (RSP) technology. The DFA1000 family is accompanied by a complete suite of support tools, making it easy to integrate into a standard design flow and directly benefiting designers of both RISC processor systems and SoCs.

2. Simulator option speeds up Verilog RTL
SpyGlass for VCS is an option for Atrenta's SpyGlass 3.0 that improves RTL descriptions, which speeds up VCS simulation performance. Electronics companies look for every opportunity to increase simulation runtime performance for their complex designs. The new SpyGlass for VCS option takes advantage of Atrenta's unique expertise in predictive analysis to provide customers with a powerful and comprehensive rule set to identify areas in their Verilog RTL that can be improved for faster runtimes while avoiding race conditions.

3. Signal-integrity software analyses PCBs and ICs
SIwave meets the growing demand for quick and accurate signal- and power-integrity analysis of leading-edge IC packages and PCBs. Unlike other methods, SIwave from Ansoft enables engineers to model entire PCBs and package structures using a full-wave analysis engine to generate both frequency- and time-domain results. SIwave's hybrid, full-wave, finite-element technique allows designers to characterise simultaneous switching noise, power and ground bounce, resonances, reflections, and coupling between traces and power/ground planes.
