Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:
The exhibition season is starting up again, and there will be many of you reading this that will be looking forward to the likes of Drives & Controls or Embedded Systems with perhaps less than relish.
Personally, I have just returned from the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, without leaving my seat.
Fortunately, here is a conference and exhibition that is paying a little more than lip service to its website (www.3gsmworldcongress.com), which is being continually updated over the course of the event.
This is a piece of cross-media development which is most welcome. This morning's visit involved no stressful air travel, no problem booking a hotel room and for once I didn't feel ripped off by the price of a coffee on the terrace of the Carlton Hotel.
There are already a number of announcements from the congress on the Electronicstalk site, and more will be added in the next few days.
I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. We currently have thousands of engineers and other industry professionals on the circulation, so you're in good company. In addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can. But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
Best wishes

OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. Architecture provides adaptive bias and control
Xicor has unveiled ODIN, a new architecture for high-performance adaptive closed loop control. This innovative architecture allows systems designers to easily implement autocorrection for errors related to time, temperature or other system level effects. The ODIN architecture features a high-precision input stage (comprising an instrumentation amplifier and a lowpass filter) that is capable of detecting signals as low as 50mV in a 30V common mode signal with 1% accuracy over temperature.

3. Smart antenna boosts basestation capacity
Paratek Microwave will premiere its DRWiN (dynamically reconfigurable wireless networks) GSM antenna at the 3GSM World Congress this week in Cannes. DRWiN GSM is the first antenna to support GSM, GPRS and Edge with a simple interface into the basestation. It uses analogue phase shifters to produce multiple simultaneous beams, independently steerable in each time slot. These phase shifters are made from Paratek's revolutionary Parascan materials technology.
