Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:

Some weeks ago, I was perhaps guilty of being somewhat jingoistic about the proposed resumption of Concorde services between Europe and the USA. But let's face it, the great beast is a stirring sight, and its history could fill many volumes.

So following the events of the past few weeks, yesterday's "maiden" flight is at least one shred of good news for an aerospace industry worldwide that could not have been hit harder.

Some - such as manufacturers of videoconferencing equipment - may say it's an ill wind that blows no good. But too many companies and jobs in the mainstream electronics industry depend on a successful aerospace industry. And while Concorde may be the thin end of a very large wedge, it is at least a start in getting life back to normal.

Increased orders for military aircraft may be one spinoff from the current conflict, but I for one would sooner see the technology used in creating a new generation of Concordes, Airbuses and 777s.

I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. In addition to the new products, news and ideas featured here, there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can. But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
