Laurence Marchini, Editor, writes:
Once upon a time the summer used to be described as the "silly season". The mainstream media were left with little to fill their pages other than "Phew what a scorcher" headlines, and the electronics media would (quite sensibly) miss out an issue or two. The logic was inescapable... the hard-working journalists need their rest, there's no real news around and (more to the point), there's nobody around to read it.
Well, that was then and this is now. The 21st century, it appears is not just a 24/7 phenomenon, looking at the stories that have filled the news this week, it seems set to become the era of 24/7/52 news.
Leaving aside any comment on riots at the latest G8 bunfight, dare I suggest that the biggest story of the week is here in Electronicstalk (albeit not exclusively). The news that Motorola is to release its mobile technology to OEMs demonstrates just how crucial 2.5G and 3G have become to the electronics industry as a whole.
And that's just one of almost a hundred new stories this week, taking the total Electronicstalk archive well over the 2000 mark. And dozens more are being added daily, so do take a look if you can. But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
Best wishes
