What a week! The exhibition circuit is back in full swing, products are being launched in ever-increasing numbers, and as a result Electronicstalk is getting bigger and bigger, with well over a hundred stories added.
I hope you find this issue of our weekly newsletter useful. But remember it contains only a small proportion of this week's news stories - there are hundreds more on our website and dozens more being added daily, so do take a look if you can.
But you don't need web access! All the full stories behind the summaries and headlines in this newsletter can be retrieved by email alone: see details below. In the meantime, if you've got any suggestions as to how we might make the site or the newsletter better, email me directly.
Best wishes

OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. Program clones devices from obsolete processes
Silway announces the introduction of the SILClone program, a systematic conversion methodology that successfully ports strategic mixed-signal and digital products previously processed with obsolete technologies. The SILClone program is focused on devices previously developed for 4- to 1.2-micron gate arrays or full custom technologies. Using as inputs the available data from the initial product (specification, schematics, GDS2 layout file, test vectors etc), this methodology secures the development lead time and compliance with the original device.

2. Celoxica offers a free go at FPGA design
Celoxica DK1 Eval is a free evaluation version of the Celoxica DK1 design suite that is restricted to compilations for simulation only, with no EDIF or VHDL output capability. With this evaluation version of the design suite engineers can build functional, accurate modules of designs without real hardware. This powerful version of the design suite is available, free of charge from the Celoxica website.

4. Java-compatible platform for GSM networks
TTPCom has announced an integrated software solution that brings Java technology to GSM, GPRS and 3G mobile phones and wireless devices. TTPCom is the first independent designer of wireless technology to produce a Java-compatible platform for GSM networks, with Java handsets only currently being available for CDMA networks, for example, in Japan. The new Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) standard is emerging as a key requirement for the delivery of next generation value added services for wireless, providing significant benefits to device manufacturers, application developers, content providers, operators and consumers.

9. Low-cost load for stand-alone or ATE control
Available now from Schaffner EMC Ltd is a new low-cost electronic load designed for testing both 48 and 24V telecomms power systems and for battery discharge testing. The PowTek load is rated at 4kW. It can either operate as a stand-alone unit with its own manual control panel or be integrated into a Schaffner ATE system under the PowerStar 5 test executive. In construction and operation, the load is similar to conventional FET adjustable electronic loads, but the main difference is that it incorporates series power resistors, allowing a significant cost saving over a pure electronic load. The one-off cost is just GBP2500, making it suitable for other general-purpose test applications.

10. Software simplifies complex wiring harnesses
Innoveda has announced TransOVM, a powerful options and variants manger that significantly simplifies the time-consuming, often frustrating process of designing complex wiring harnesses for large-scale projects such as automobiles, aircraft, and farm and construction equipment. TransOVM further bolsters Innoveda's TransDesign tool suite, the industry's first fully integrated solution for automated electrical system design that covers the design process from concept to manufacturing support. While other tools limit design teams to designing and managing each wiring harness independently, TransOVM enables teams to plan a large-scale design through a straightforward user interface that links the wiring content of all harnesses involved back to common schematics.
