OUR TOP TEN NEW PRODUCTS SELECTION
=======================================================
1. System-level design for 3G cellular development
RadioScape says its Radiolab 3G UMTS system-level design tool is the most complete set of design modelling elements available for this emerging cellular standard. Radiolab operates over MATLAB and Simulink, the world's most popular system-level design and modelling environment. Using its powerful software-defined radio (SDR) development approach, RadioScape has significantly extended the capabilities of Simulink, enabling it to handle bursty data (variable sized data), a vital functionality for 3G simulation. This advance gives RadioScape the unique ability to offer a comprehensive, real-world 3G simulation.

2. Narrow-separation FBGs increase fibre capacity
Southampton Photonics has shipped what are believed to be the first commercially available 25GHz-channel-separation fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs). The BragNetT FBGs were shipped to a major fibre-optic systems vendor and involve a patented technology breakthrough which enables the number of wavelengths of light that can be sent down a single fibre-optic cable to be increased, thereby expanding network capacity and lowering operator costs. FBGs are components vital for filtering, routing, and conditioning the individual wavelengths of light that carry data down a single fibre cable in a process known as Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM). More accurate FBGs, ie with lower channel separations, allow a greater number of wavelengths, and therefore more data to be transported over the network.

3. Card provides PC-based communications analysis
The W41PC MkII is the latest version of a PC plug-in ISA card and software system offering all the necessary functions to analyse, decode and process communications transmissions in the HF/VHF/UHF and SHF bands. The system may be configured for stationary monitoring of just one transmission with a single system or can range to a fully automated broadband monitoring system using a network of co-operating systems. More than 100 code analysis modes are currently implemented for all important demodulation methods and a variety of international alphabets (eg Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew etc) are included in the standard package.

4. High-brightness LEDs are smaller and more frugal
Toshiba has launched two new series of surface mount LEDs that combine high-brightness, low-current operation with one of the industry's smallest LED packages. Ideal for LCD display and keypad backlighting applications in mobile phones, the new devices will suit a variety of applications where small size, high luminous intensity and low power consumption are critical design criteria.

8. Reference design provides quick start for STBs
Amino Communications has published its Advanced Set-top Box (ASTB) Reference Design. The company claims that this provides the fastest route to market for service providers who want to deliver new entertainment and e-commerce services via a digital set-top box. Amino is also aiming at OEMs who want to enter new markets but prefer to license the technology rather than design from scratch. Set-top boxes based on Amino's technology provide video-on-demand (up to and above 7Mbit/s MPEG-2), broadcast TV and web browsing. Other services such as e-mail, videoconferencing and IP telephony are all possible thanks to Amino's modular approach.
