Digital TV Labs, the specialist in conformance testing of DVB-T receiver products, has launched Evora, the first pan-European DVB-T test suite offering complete country-by-country software conformance tests, giving manufacturers the advantage of early market entry, with high-quality products and minimal returns. Although European DVB-T networks are based on the shared DVB specification suite, the interpretation of the specification can vary in individual countries, leading to a lack of conformity across European networks. This makes it critical for manufacturers to test receivers against each individual country's requirements, to ensure optimum receiver performance and avoid poor user experiences.
Based on thousands of test cases, Evora provides a cost-effective and time efficient solution for manufacturers.
The test suite guarantees strict conformance to specification, rules of operation, real broadcast conditions and all aspects of DVB-T receiver functionality.
It tests all possible service scenarios for each country, including test cases for common network implementation, to ensure good receiver behaviour when faced with nonconformant broadcasts.
Stan Smiljanic, Principal Digital Specialist at Toshiba Information Systems UK, commented: 'The launch of the new Test Suite marks a step change for the industry and reinforces Toshiba's decision to use Digital TV Labs for DVB-T testing against Europe's diverse digital broadcasting environments'.
'With Evora, Digital TV Labs has set a new standard for conformance testing, enabling us to deliver conformant, high quality integrated digital TVs across multiple markets'.
Digital TV Labs provides comprehensive test reports with detailed error descriptions, allowing rapid result diagnosis, repeatability and problem isolation.
Expert advice from Digital TV Lab's experienced test engineers helps manufacturers reduce the engineering time required to resolve problems and validate DVB-T implementations.
Keith Potter, CEO of Digital TV Labs, said: 'The varied and challenging network environment presents a real challenge to manufacturers of DVB-T receivers'.
'Consumers have high expectations and low tolerance for poor-performing product'.
'By carrying out comprehensive testing for individual country requirements, manufacturers can avoid high return rates and customer disappointment'.
'In the digital age, manufacturers cannot afford to damage brand perceptions through incomplete testing'.
Evora covers all major specifications including E-Book, D-Book, NorDig Unified and DGTVi.
The suite is continuously evolving to keep pace with the dynamic DVB-T environment where network operators are constantly adding new services and features.
Evora allows manufacturers to future-proof receivers and reduce the risk of later warranty returns or expensive over-air-downloads.
Evora complements the capabilities of Digital TV Labs' virtual radio frequency (RF) field testing service, which relegates field testing to a minimal validation in the pre-production phase by testing RF front-end functionality.
