Easy customisation for embedded comms modules
Two customisable products have been added to Digi's industry-leading family of network connectivity products - the Digi Connect EM and Digi Connect SP.
"As PCs and servers continue to trend smaller, customers utilising rack mount servers for example need smaller card solutions with increased port counts".
"This is causing demand to shift from ISA and high profile PCI to low-profile PCI".
"In response to this shift, we can better serve our customers by extending our market-leading product line to include a low profile version of the AccelePort Xem".
The AccelePort Xem system enables customers to connect up to 64 RS232 or RS422 serial ports to a universal PCI (3.3 and 5V), PCI-X or ISAbus based computer.
It features a host adapter card with an onboard RISC-based processor that delivers up to 115.2Kbit/s performance per port.
The system also includes a compact Digi Ports module that provides access to eight or 16 serial ports.
For Digi AccelePort Xem customers updating from ISA or high profile PCI to low profile, existing Ports modules are compatible.
This reduces cost and decreases set up time.
Driver support is also provided for a wide array of popular operating systems.
"Low-profile PCI was added to additional Digi serial card products last year, including the AccelePort Xp and Digi Neo", Kraft added.
"Digi now has low profile PCI options from one to 64 ports".
Digi's multiport serial card product line, including the original DigiBoard, is the number one selling serial card product line in the world.
AccelePort, Digi Neo and ClassicBoard solutions offer the highest level of operating system support, serial port capacity, I/O performance, transmission distance, environmental tolerance and upgradeability available.
As an example of the product line's high level of performance, the Digi AccelePort Xp is capable of 921.6Kbit/s on 16 ports bidirectionally with a throughput level of 920Kbit/s.
