De Montfort University will host a European computer games conference this week as it announces a new three year degree course on electronics games technology

De Montfort University (DMU) will host a European computer games conference this week as it announces a new three year degree course on electronics games technology. The 6th annual Eurosis Game-On conference brings together international industry leaders and academics to exchange ideas on programming techniques and how to attract young people to the sector.

Keynote speaker for the event, Jim Parker, Head of the Digital Media Laboratory at the University of Calgary, is a specialist in computer perception with a keen interest in educational technology.

The two core tracks covered in the conference will be artificial intelligence and physics and simulation.

Other subjects discussed will include: facial animation, voice interaction, online game security and war-gaming.

The conference is to be chaired by Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, Head of DMU's Engineering and Technology School, who said: 'This conference underlines the importance of DMU's work in the computer game arena and our development of new courses in the sector'.

The conference runs from 23rd to 25th November at the university's Leicester campus.

The university's new BSc course in electronics games technology will start in September 2006 and aims to give students the skills required to work in three main disciplines of the technology industry - design, electronics and computing software.

The course is a collaborative venture between the University's Faculty of Computing Sciences and Engineering and the Faculty of Art and Design.

De Montfort University also launched the BA (Hons) in game art design degree this September (2005).

This course focuses on the artistic elements of creating computer games and works closely with industry in the sector.
