DEK claims to have redefined the ergonomics of machine user interfaces to dramatically increase productivity and machine utilisation

The new DEK Instinctiv user interface, announced at Productronica, also acts as the portal to content-rich technical support services via the Internet. DEK Instinctiv is a new user interface that draws on human factors techniques commonly found in virtual reality technologies to display complex machine and process data in an easily digestible form.

Advanced graphical techniques, innovative features including TimeToGo real-time indication of consumables levels, and extensive on-board help and error recovery allow operators using Instinctiv to achieve higher productivity with less training, maximise uptime and assess and optimise complex processes.

DEK Instinctiv is also the portal to the new DEK Interactiv portfolio of online support services.

Interactiv enables users to independently query DEK's knowledge servers based at technical centres around the world.

These contain detailed process and setup information, graphical tips and help, and are constantly updated and augmented by customer services teams.

Voice communication with the DEK helpdesk network can also be activated at the push of a button.

And operators can work collaboratively with remotely based DEK technical staff across a virtual private network (VPN), including sharing control of the machine to perfect setup, fine-tune machine settings, and resolve machine issues.

Rich Heimsch, President of DEK International, said: "DEK Instinctiv and DEK Interactiv together will change the way manufacturers train operators, manage staff and capacity, and deal with machine service and maintenance issues.

To meet these challenges that all modern electronic manufacturers face, we needed to drive the concept of the intuitive user interface to a new level".

The DEK Instinctiv user interface is initially available with DEK's new Micron class Galaxy.

Using wireless broadband connectivity across the shop floor, combined with up to the minute security features including Internet firewall and Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP), Galaxy can now be connected to DEK knowledge servers via IPsec VPN tunnel technology without requiring extra cabling.

There are extensive additional security features inherent in the machine hardware, and each Galaxy delivered is ready to connect immediately to DEK Interactiv subscription services.
