Screen printing solutions provider DEK has become the global licensee of Novatec's enabling technology for adhesive printing with plastic stencils

Under the agreement to be executed shortly between DEK, Novatec, which owns the patents, and former licensee Loctite, DEK will continue to support all existing Loctite Varidot customers and will also take over Loctite's Varidot manufacturing cell in Ireland. "As the sole licensee of the technology, all Varidot customers will now be supported through DEK's global infrastructure", said Peter Marshall, European Business Manager of DEK.

"Our plans to grow the business include additional manufacturing sites in the USA and Asia, scheduled to open later this year".

DEK began developing screen printing for adhesives independently, and successfully introduced its PumpPrinting technology during 1997.

Following discussions between DEK, Novatec and Loctite, Novatec will terminate its licence agreement with Loctite and appoint DEK as the sole licensee of Novatec's patent covering all techniques for adhesive printing using plastic stencils.

As a result, DEK and Loctite have agreed terms under which DEK will take over Loctite's Varidot customer base, some manufacturing equipment and the established Varidot trademark enabling Loctite to focus on its core business.

Frank Ongkiehong of Loctite Europe said, "The agreement is very amicable, and ensures the Varidot customer base that we built up will continue to be supported by a world class organisation.

Loctite's expertise lies in creating adhesives and soldering formulations for many industries including electronics manufacturing, and we are now able to increase our focus on those disciplines".

"Both PumpPrinting and Varidot have been successfully deployed by many well known manufacturers", said Peter Marshall.

"Several of these have also combined ProFlow DirEKt Imaging, to further improve print quality and consistency.

DEK is now a single source for Varidot and ProFlow, which gives customers easier access to a complete solution for screen printing adhesives".
