Conference hears of PLC potential
Jorge Blasco, CEO of DS2, has presented the next big thing in the consumer market at the Net-at Home annual conference in Cannes, France
DS2 high-speed powerline communications (PLC) technology revolutionises the home entertainment experience. Providing connection speeds of up to 200Mbit/s that support multimedia applications, DS2 PLC technology is behind a growing ecosystem of high-speed home networking solutions that successfully bridge the gap in areas of the home network that aren't conducive to wireless.

'Its instant networking, not security worries, no fuss and whole home coverage', said Blasco.
Delivering a keynote presentation at the conference Jorge Blasco discussed the ease of using DS2 PLC for home networking, networked entertainment, wireless extensions and operator applications.
'To create a powerline network using DS2 technology customers just connect their Internet gateway into a DS2 powered adapter that is plugged into any electrical outlet'.
Blasco added: 'Computers or other devices that are plugged into other adapters can then access the Internet or share data over the electrical wiring'.
'Consumers are eager for this type of easy-to-use, reliable networking equipment available from DS2 clients because it delivers instant connectivity among digital video recorders, game consoles, personal computers, printers, network storage, DMA (digital media adapters) and other network-enabled devices'.
'There is no need to drill holes or lay cables'.
'Retail customers can extend the reach of their existing broadband Internet networks (ADSL, coaxial cable or WiMAX connections) by plugging in DS2-based powerline to Ethernet adapters'.
DS2 PLC technology complements Wi-Fi for applications that require full coverage with high quality of service for whole home networking.
According to Blasco: 'The reason that PLC is emerging now is because technological foresight meets with market demand'.
'DS2s breakthrough in developing technology to support multimedia services today delivers the only mature, available option to support the increasing demand for video streaming applications'.
