MIL-STD-1553 terminals are radiation tolerant

Available now from Data Device Corp are prototype Space Ace II and Space RT II radiation tolerant MIL-STD-1553 terminals. MIL-STD-1553 is the databus standard used on the majority of the western world's military aircraft and much military and space equipment. 'Our next generation radiation tolerant terminals have been designed to be form, fit and functional replacements for our popular BU-61582 Space Ace series and BU-65142 Space RT Series devices', says Todd Decker, Marketing Manager for DDC's MIL-STD-1553 products.
DDC launched the development of the new line of MIL-STD-1553 terminals when it became apparent that some of the radiation tolerant ASICs that were used in their widely used Space Ace and Space RT devices were not going to be available from their vendor any longer.
'When we were given an opportunity to make a last-time-buy of the radiation tolerant ASICs, we acquired enough devices to the requirements of our customers for the time it would take to design, build and qualify these new parts', said Decker.
The original devices are deployed in multiple satellite, space vehicle and launch vehicle systems.
'We've been able to help our customers avoid redesign and requalification of many designs with this approach', added Decker.
MIL-STD-1553 databus systems continue to be the bus of choice in many space-based applications due to its mature, robust, fault tolerant, reliable, proven architecture.
The BU-63825 Space Ace II series devices, which replace the original BU-61582 series terminals, are architecturally compatible with DDC's popular Ace series of MIL-STD-1553 terminals and are usually used in systems that employ a processor.
The Space Ace II can operate in BC, RT and MT modes.
The BU-63705 Space RT II series devices serve as a replacement to the BU-65142 series devices is an RT device designed to interface directly with system logic and doesn't require a host processor.
DDC is fulfilling orders for prototype devices now and is accepting orders for standard devices for delivery in mid-2005.
