Danielson (UK) has been able to link up with Far East production facilities in a fashion that the company believes will benefit the Aylesbury manufacturing plant, the Far East partner and the OEM end user. The membrane switch has long been the preferred interface for control engineers in all industries due to its durability, cosmetic appeal, low cost and design flexibility. Some of the latest functional enhancements available include low profile LEDs with improvements in LED adhesion, lightguides for daylight visible applications and consistent tactile feedback.

Ben Phelan, Sales and Marketing manager for Danielson (UK) says: 'Generally the latest components and materials are more expensive when they are initially introduced to market'.

'In an industry where engineers seek to incorporate the best aesthetics and most desirable features alongside their buyer colleagues who closely scrutinise material and production costs it is essential to be active in the pursuit of optimum supply and production flexibility to keep costs in check'.

By harnessing the capabilities of the manufacturing resource planning system installed, Danielson (UK) has been able to pioneer the optimum man machine interface production methods and incorporate the most desirable membrane panel materials and components to the partners in the Far East.

Sharing technical knowledge has been the key to development with the Far East partners.

Danielson has set a high standard specification.

Membrane switches, touch screens and electroluminescent lamps are all known technology, but still evolving to new levels of durability, reliability and performance.

Challenges today for membrane switch production revolve around slimmer construction, superior tactile feel, daylight visible backlighting with even light distribution and of course lower production costs.

Phelan adds: 'Danielson (UK) has been able to see real benefits in this collaboration arrangement'.

'New markets, particularly in the automotive sectors for printed sensors and discreet wireless antennas have seen domestic manufactured output grow with a healthy product mix across several industries'.
