Top-end network search
engine speeds switching
Cypress Semiconductor has released its 256K IP entry network search engine, with very low power consumption due to its 1.5V core voltage and performance as fast as 83 million searches per second
Cypress Semiconductor has released its 256K IP entry (9Mbit) network search engine (NSE), with very low power consumption due to its 1.5V core voltage and performance as fast as 83 million searches per second. The CYNSE70256 is ideal for applications requiring large routing tables and wirespeed processing at OC-48 (2.5Gbit/s), OC-192 (10Gbit/s), and beyond.

Internet traffic growth, as well as the increasing number of services offered over the web, has created a demand for very large entry devices such as the CYNSE70256, which can perform layer 3-7 searches at high line rates of OC-48, OC-192 and beyond.
The CYNSE70256 has the variable entry-width capability (34-288bit) within its content addressable memory (CAM) array to accommodate a broad range of searches from simple IP forwarding to complex multilayer quality of service (QoS) filtering.
The CYNSE70256 is a ternary (bit-maskable) device that allows for optimal implementation of the longest prefix match (LPM) routing algorithm.

"Cypress's CYNSE70256 NSE provides the networking infrastructure market with an excellent solution for addressing the critical demand for high-speed packet processing in areas of dense Internet traffic such as the core of the network", said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group.
"Cypress's leadership in this area can be attributed to its world-class engineering capability and an in-depth knowledge of the networking space".
"Cypress's goal is to enable our customers to develop highly differentiated solutions for their end markets", said Rob Raghavan, Marketing Manager, Data Communications Division.
"The CYNSE70256 provides the best of both worlds to our customers: very high entry size combined with blazing performance.
These attributes make it well suited for the rapidly evolving demands of the networking market".
The CYNSE70256 is the latest addition to the successful CYNSE70000 family; extending Cypress's broad portfolio of NSEs ranging from 32K IP (1Mbit) to 128K IP (4.5Mbit) devices, including the CYNSE70032, the CYNSE70064, and the CYNSE70128.
Cypress also offers the CYNCP80192 coprocessor that provides a seamless interface to industry leading network processors (NPUs).
The CYNSE70256 is in production now.
In quantities of 10,000, the CYNSE70256 is priced as low as $195.
The device is packaged in a 388-ball BGA.
To reduce time to market, Cypress offers a reference design kit (RDK) that provides the necessary simulation and diagnostic tools for engineers to design and debug their systems quickly.
The CYNSE-DEVKIT01 offers various routing schemes to simulate different routing environments.
