At this year's IBC Cabot will launch a DVB-T middleware stack that will enable manufacturers to integrate digital receivers into multifunction digital TV devices.

At this year's IBC, digital TV software supplier Cabot Communications will launch a DVB-T middleware stack that will enable manufacturers to integrate digital receivers into multifunctional digital TV devices such as DVRs (digital video recorders), IP set top boxes (STBs) and DVD recorders, in order to keep pace with the fast-evolving digital TV market.

The development of combination digital TV products, for example DVD recorders with a built-in hard disk drive and digital TV receiver or IP STBs with video on demand alongside digital terrestrial broadcasts, requires the complex integration of multiple software stacks onto the same hardware platform.

Aurora Solutions, based on Cabot's pan-European digital terrestrial TV stack Aurora, will offer manufacturers an optimised, flexible DVB core that easily integrates with other software stacks.

Cabot will also use IBC to unveil the first DVR to be developed using Aurora Solutions.

The DVR from Vestel, Europe's largest TV original equipment manufacturer, offers consumer electronics companies a ready-built DVR that can be branded and styled for sale in the European and UK markets.

Cabot will also demonstrate the MHP functionality of its Aurora middleware stack, provided as a plug-in via Alticast's AltiCaptor MHP software.

Darren Standing, Business Development Manager at Cabot Communications, commented: "The growth of IPTV across Europe, coupled with increasing demand from consumers for more feature-rich digital TV services, has opened up new opportunities for OEMs and consumer electronics brands".

"Cabot has kept pace with the fast-evolving digital TV market to develop a stack that will enable manufacturers to handle the complexities of any digital TV device in order to expand their product ranges quickly and at low cost".
