Alliance to aid
multimedia chip designers
CoFluent Design is working with Sonics to reduce time to profitability of joint customers developing digital multimedia systems
CoFluent first-20% ESL modelling and simulation toolset will enable Sonics customers to quickly make confident parametric design decisions before final RTL and embedded software development. Sonics Smart Interconnect solutions offer designers a wide-range of advanced fabric and data-flow services for efficiently and cost-effectively connecting processing elements, memory, and I/O elements of their SoC platform.

Design software chosen by research platform
CoFluent Design's CoFluent Studio has been selected as part of the CIM PACA collaborative research platform
CoFluent Studio will allow SoC designers to model easily and quickly different use scenarios and analyse various parameters (resource loads, power consumption, die sise, latencies, throughputs, etc) of multiple architecture design alternatives, before all hardware and software components are available, and can be assembled.
TLM SystemC-based CoFluent Studio simulations are driven by graphical timed-behavioural models of application use-cases mapped on abstract models of hardware components characterised with high-level performance attributes.
Since no RTL or SystemC models of hardware components are needed or ISS models of processors, CoFluent Studio users can explore the design space and obtain accurate performance data at low cost in a relatively short time - in the project's first 20% of design completion.
'On the basis of CoFluent Studio simulation results, designers will be able to optimise the design of their SoC platform, choose the right Sonics Smart Interconnect configuration, and implement it confidently' said Stephane Leclercq, CEO of CoFluent Design.
CoFluent timed-behavioural models of application use-cases drive Sonics-based SoC platform architecture validation.

Toolset makes modelling more flexible
CoFluent Design has added to its system modelling and simulation toolset with support for multiple instances in models and capacity for importing/exporting models from libraries
The SonicsStudio development environment allows designers to build their entire SoC platform and configure the Sonics Interconnect as specified at the beginning of the project.
SonicsStudio provides the simulation data for fine-tuning the SoC platform architecture, analysing it in more detail (bandwidths, cache miss ratios, addressing modes, etc) and verifying performance figures predicted when using CoFluent Studio models.
Effort is typically required to create test cases to run on SoC RTL or OCP/TL1 models.
Software is usually not available and ISS usually takes too long to simulate.
With CoFluent Studio, users create graphical models from which they generate SystemC functional test cases that can interact with the SonicsStudio OCP/TL1 SystemC platform model which runs them.
The goal of the collaboration between CoFluent and Sonics is to enable SoC platform designers to develop TLM SystemC programs 10 times faster than by hand-coding.
SonicsStudio and CoFluent Studio will shorten SoC development time and also will enable SoC platform providers to deliver added value to their customers - SoC platform users.
'The collaboration with CoFluent is another element of Sonics' commitment to provide the best SystemC modelling environments available', said Phil Casini, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Sonics.
