Automatic crimping adds value for Irish CEM: News from Contax

Elite Electronics, Northern Ireland's leading contract electronics manufacturer has purchased the new Komax Gamma 333PC, a fully automatic crimping machine from Contax. This represents the first installation of this system configuration in Ireland. Elite wanted a new crimping system for building cable looms for electrical and industrial applications.

The company was already using two Komax Alpha 422 systems, an older generation of equipment but wanted to provide additional capability.

Elite was looking for system that could provide increased flexibility and speed at a competitive price.

It also required positional accuracy of printing, and the Gamma 333PC was able to offer accurate ink jet marking integrated into the user interface.

"We have used Komax equipment before and found it very good and reliable", said David Allen, Operations Director at Elite Electronics.

"The systems are not the cheapest around, but they offer good value for money", he continued.

"We have also been working with Contax for many years, and we are very satisfied with their service.

As they also specialise in Komax systems it was a logical decision to go to them for advice".

As Contax is the UK representative for Komax and has over 20 years' experience, it was logical to go to them for advice especially with regards to the system capability and the process of ink jet printing".

Elite is a very customer-focused organisation, so total system flexibility was particularly important.

"We need to respond to customers' needs quickly and easily.

This often involves making changes to production to accommodate their requirements", said David Allen.

"Both our people and our equipment have to be flexible enough to meet the demands of our customers".

These qualities also need to be mirrored in a supplier, explained David.

"We use Contax because they are very reliable and offer excellent support.

I believe that we purchased one of the first Gamma 333PC systems with the new integrated 291 ink jet printer, so there was additional work making sure that it performed correctly.

We are very happy with the equipment and its performance, and have definitely made the right choice", he concluded.

With its capacity to accommodate an additional processing station on side one, the Gamma 333PC can perform a number of new processes.

Depending on the customer's needs, it can produce two-ended crimp contacts, process double-crimp connections with three different terminals or apply seals on one-end of the wire.

Twisting and tinning are two further options.

Process monitoring and ink jet marking are integrated right into the system, ensuring optimum quality control.
