Eastcom, one of China's largest manufacturers of mobile phones and systems equipment, has announced plans to develop CPS's Matrix location technology into a range of wireless devices and support the rollout of a new generation of high accuracy location based services in the region. The largest Shanghai-listed company in the mobile communications industry in China, Eastcom already delivers a wide range of integrated solutions for mobile communications networks, including network operation and maintenance, value-added services as well as handsets. The company now wants to target operators and enterprises with high accuracy location-based services for vehicle, asset and personnel tracking.
As a leading manufacturer of GSM terminals - sold under its own name and via leading global brands - Eastcom will also develop a Matrix-enabled range of consumer handsets to support high accuracy location services.
The integration of CPS's Matrix location technology enables any handset or device to be rapidly located with sub-100m accuracy.
The modules use the existing GSM infrastructure to transfer location information to the network using standard GPRS or SMS.
This greatly reduces the rollout costs traditionally associated with high accuracy mobile location technology.
Matrix will also work effectively indoors and in urban environments where satellite-based systems fail to perform and, because Matrix integration requires only a software upgrade to the mobile device, this technology provides cost and size advantages over GPS solutions.
Eastcom VP Xiaoyi Wu said: 'Eastcom is delighted to offer to its customers, both consumer and corporate, leading-edge server mobile location centre (SMLC), and handsets that support Matrix to enable us to deliver self-developed high accuracy, low cost services to meet the Chinese local market needs'.
'Through co-operation with CPS, it could help Eastcom to be a major positioning service provider in China'.
CPS CEO Chris Wade commented: 'Matrix is already a proven performer in the Chinese market and this endorsement by a major handset manufacturer and value added service provider further demonstrates the growing demand for our low cost, high accuracy technology throughout the region'.
Eastcom has established strategic relationships with global companies including Motorola, TI, LG, Samsung, Siemens and CA.
It is actively engaged in research and development work involving new handset technology, 3G, data communications, communication network software and integrated BSS.
