John Scarisbrick is the new Chairman of Cambridge Positioning Systems

He takes over the role from John Peett CBE, a cofounder of Vodafone Group, who is retiring from the post he has held since March 1999. During his tenure, he oversaw the company's growth from an academic startup to a major industry player with partnerships with many of the world's leading wireless equipment vendors.

He remains an important investor in the company.

Scarisbrick has over 30 years experience in global technology businesses.

He spent 25 years at Texas Instruments in France, the USA and the UK, where he was most recently Senior Vice President responsible for its $5 billion ASP business, which included a range of wireless, broadband and other technology interests worldwide.

Previously, he was President of Texas Instruments Europe and led the team that created Texas Instruments' DSP business in Houston, Texas.

He is a venture partner at Vortex Partners in Dallas, Texas, and serves as a non-executive director of ARM Holdings and California-based SonIM.

CPS Chief Executive Chris Wade said: "John will help us build on the powerful platform our previous chairman has helped create for CPS.

His broad and deep industry knowledge - and experience in building successful global businesses - will be enormously valuable in moving the company forward".

Scarisbrick said: "CPS has a tremendously exciting future.

The global equipment and handset industry has adopted CPS technology as the high accuracy location solution for GSM.

Deployment is now underway in the US, where we have seen the formation of an industry-wide group involving operators and vendors to bring the benefits of this technology to the mass market.

With strong and growing interest in location services and its supporting technology in Asia Pacific and Europe, this is a great time to join what is a truly innovative and world leading company".

Laurence Garrett, director for communications for 3i, one of CPS' investors, commented: "It is terrific news that John Scarisbrick has become the chairman for CPS.

His track record is impeccable and we are confident that John will assist the executive team with the continued exploitation of the potentially world beating technology that CPS possesses.

Location is a new market and it requires patience, good execution and great management to succeed.

CPS is looking great in all departments".
