Celerica has acquired the intellectual property of OrAccess, an Israeli startup company specialising in high-end, high-speed wireless optics technology. As a result of the acquisition, the OrAccess technology, which includes extremely narrow laser beams and an active tracking system for last mile connectivity, will be incorporated into the Celerica 500 System. "This is a highly beneficial acquisition, which fits perfectly into Celerica's overall business plan and R and D strategy", said Celerica's CEO Miguel Cizin.
"Celerica is seeking to help carriers deploy cell sites in urban areas.
The addition of OrAccess technology to our products brings us one step closer to realising Celerica's goal".
"Our solution, using state-of-the art optics as one of its several subsystems, will replace coaxial cable between a wireless basestation and its antennas with reliable, high capacity over-the-air optical links from our customers' base stations", said Nissim Atias, Celerica's CTO.
"Incorporating OrAccess technology will add value to our product, enhancing system robustness against undesired movements such as those due to building sways, under variable sun and wind loading".
Cizin added that the OrAccess wireless optical link technology fits well within Celerica's overall philosophy of distributed cell site architecture, which is aimed at reducing the costs associated with deploying new cells.
"As always", he said, "our goal remains to provide carriers with a unique way of using what they already have, but more efficiently as they expand their networks".
