SoI components handle hot control duties
APEI reckons it can overcome many high-temperature electronics challenges by combining high power SiC devices with Cissoid's SoI control components.
Arkansas Power Electronics International (APEI) has successfully used Cissoid silicon-on-insulator components in high-temperature and high-power modules for demanding applications such as oil and gas drilling, aerospace and US military applications.
Emerging markets such as renewable energy as well as hybrid electric vehicles will also benefit from these developments.
According to Alex Lostetter, Chief Executive Officer at APEI: "SoI and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies have often been presented as competitors for high temperature applications".
"At APEI we have overcome many of the high temperature electronics challenges by demonstrating the combination of high power SiC devices with Cissoid's SoI control components".
"While SiC devices provide the power, Cissoid's SoI control components are the brain of our systems allowing highly integrated analogue and digital control functions with operation up to 300C.
This concept was successfully used for DC/DC convertors for NASA, motor drivers for the US Army and the National Science Foundation (NSF), as well as renewable energy applications for the US Department of Energy (DOE)".
"The high temperature components of Cissoid have shown unprecedented performances and long-term reliability at high temperature", says Pierre Delatte, Chief Technical Officer at Cissoid.
"Our low-dropout voltage regulators family has been tested continuously for more than 10,000 hours at 300C".
"It is considered as the most reliable solution for oil and gas well drilling applications, probably the harsher environment in terms of temperature and vibrations".
"Other Cissoid components such as bandgap voltage reference, 555 timer and general purpose operational amplifier have been also tested at very low temperature by the NASA, demonstrating a record operating temperature range of 500C (from -200 to +300C)".
Tony Denayer, Chief Executive Officer at Cissoid, adds: "We are proud to support APEI for their demanding applications in extreme conditions".
"This collaboration illustrates our strategy in the High Temperature Electronics market".
"Cissoid is the only supplier of high voltage integrated solutions for applications above 200C.
Our proven portfolio of highly reliable products is constantly broadening".
"We also see that more and more customers use Cissoid's products below 200C for their unparalleled reliability".
