Gasket gives long-life shielding performance
Soft-Shield 7000 is a new high-performance fabric-over-foam EMI shielding gasket from Chomerics
The material is suitable for use at operating temperatures between -40 and +125C and offers significant benefits when compared with traditional beryllium copper (BeCu) fingerstock and urethane foam based materials on the market. Soft-Shield 7000 has higher shielding at lower deflection points than comparable urethane foam based wrapped gaskets.

The material also has excellent compression set characteristics showing no degradation in shielding performance over 10,000 compression cycles.
This specification helps ensure that mechanical and electrical performance is maintained for product life cycles of ten or more years, as is often the requirement in the latest communications equipment.
The proprietary foam core of Soft-Shield 7000 is coated with a plated cloth jacket that achieves an average attenuation of over 90dB from 20MHz to 10GHz.
The jacket is self-terminating with no sharp edges; this helps to ensure good electrical contact between mating surfaces.
A high-temperature pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) applied to one side of the material is provided to ease assembly.
EMI shielding applications for this type of material are already well established in the telecommunications industry.
Emerging applications in the growth area of automotive telematics and electronics will take full advantage of the high temperature, long life and compression set performance of Soft-Shield 7000.
The material is UL94V0 compliant and is supplied in application ready custom shapes on release sheets for easy peel and stick application.
Material can be die-cut, spliced or kiss-cut.
Initially D-shape profiles will be offered with additional custom profiles being added to meet specific customer requirements.
