A novel PCI-based plug-in board remotely monitors the reliability, availability and serviceability of a computer. The PC-RAS(PCI) is a PCI-compliant RAS (remote access service) enhancement board that operates completely independent of the host PC. Drawing power from the stand-y power of the host computer, the board continues monitoring even if the PC becomes unstable.

The PC-RAS(PCI) has a 32Mbyte CF card (dedicated to firmware) and is shipped with a user configurable software library that allows the end-user to personalise the system monitoring functions to best suit their application and environment.

Various page views can be created for graphical views of a systems health and functionality.

The board offers real-time system health information from chassis temperature to fan rotation speed to power supply voltage fluctuations with three different alarm levels that can be preset.

These alarms can trigger such actions as PC shutdown, system reboot and/or e-mail/cellphone alarm notification.

The scheduled startup/shutdown function can generate these requests at up to 16 preset times or it can schedule for a system to run for a specified number of minutes each hour.

It can also respond to a startup error by generating a system restart by recycling the power supply.

Other functions include a watchdog timer to monitor running programs, general purpose digital input/output (four channels each) and debugging log information.
