A new range of low-profile PCI data acquisition cards addresses the needs of today's space-constrained embedded systems. Apart from their physical dimensions, low-profile PCI cards are no different from other PCI cards. They have the same signalling, electrical and configuration characteristics as standard PCI 2.2 cards.

Low-profile cards fit into the new cases sized for Flex-ATX and micro-ATX motherboards.

Ideal applications include POS systems, low profile servers, and low-profile industrial and telecommunication rack-mount chassis.

Low-profile PCI cards are simply PCI cards based on a new card size standard.

The low-profile PCI standard was developed to standardise the design of PCI cards used in small-footprint systems.

Low-profile PCI cards follow the design guidelines of the PCI Special Interest Group, the organisation that sets standards for the PCIbus.

To cater for the latest generation of low profile PCs that can only use low profile PCI addon boards, Contec has created low-profile versions of its standard-setting data acquisition cards.

These include: digital I/O, analogue I/O, communications and bus expansion systems.
