The availability and quality of the UK electricity supply are becoming increasingly important. Last year saw several widespread power blackouts that caused considerable commercial and social disruption, focusing attention on availability and resilience. A new free CPD seminar - part of the Leonardo Power Quality Initiative - will help delegates to understand the theory behind power problems and provide practical guidance on their identification, measurement and mitigation in LV installations.

The seminar is now accepted by CIBSE for inclusion in its CPD directory, as well as being recognised by the IEE for CPD purposes.

Aimed at design and consulting engineers, electrical contractors and installers, and facilities maintenance staff, the content includes measurement techniques, availability concepts and backup power supplies, short- and long-term monitoring, mitigation methods and the role of the earthing system.

Prior understanding of power quality issues is not necessary as introductory material is presented in the "Power quality - an overview" session.

The presenters are from the UK Power Quality Partnership, formed by CDA (an IEE endorsed provider of training seminars and learning resources) and industry's key organisations, including Fluke (UK), Rhopoint Systems and MGE UPS Systems.

The information presented is based on the contents of the "Power quality application guide".

A buffet will be provided and preregistration is essential.

Forthcoming seminars will be held on 14th September 2004 in Edinburgh, on 5th October in London, and on 12th October in Birmingham.

A registration form can be downloaded from the CDA website.
