Distributor expands resistor manufacturing

UK manufacturing licences provide speedy alternative sources for Vishay and Welwyn resistors.

Charcroft Electronics is expanding its UK manufacturing operations with production rights from Vishay, and TT electronics Welwyn.

The rights allow Charcroft to manufacture direct equivalents to Vishay's latest Z Foil and Welwyn's 4800 series precision resistors, including the CECC 40-302-002 release versions of the 4802 BX and 4812 CX style devices.

As one of only five Vishay-approved Precision Centres worldwide Charcroft will provide a UK manufacturing source for the surface-mount VSMP and radial Z201, ultra-high-precision, Bulk Metal Z Foil resistors which are direct equivalents to the Vishay versions.

The production rights for Welwyn's 4800 series were granted to Charcroft to ensure continued availability of the parts which are used extensively for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in the defence, aerospace and precision instrumentation sectors.

"By manufacturing in the UK Charcroft are able to offer optional Precision Express delivery which allows us to deliver prototype Z Foil devices and emergency stock replacement 4800 series parts in 5 to 15 days".

"The lead-time for production volumes of the Charcroft Z Foil resistors is just 4 to 6 weeks which provides a useful second-source for direct equivalents to the Vishay devices", explains Edmund Coady, Sales Director at Charcroft.

Both series will be manufactured with either RoHS-compliant termination coatings, or with tin/lead coating for RoHS-exempt applications.

Although manufactured by Charcroft, the original part numbering systems will be retained.

Z Foil devices are the industry's first resistors to combine power ratings up to 750mW, with long-term stability down to +/-0.005% and a very low typical temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of 0.2ppm/C from-55 to +125C, and 0.05ppm from 0 to +70C.

The radial Z201 series is the new-generation Z Foil alternative to the S102 series resistors.

Charcroft will trim VSMP series resistors to any value from 10ohm to 150kohm and Z201 resistors to any value from 10ohm to 100kohm.

The commercial versions of the radial 4800 series precision resistors are available from 1ohm to 300kohm with tolerances from 0.005 to 1%.

The CECC 40-302-002 release versions have a resistance range of 100ohm to 56kohm.
