Ceramic substarates keep convertors cooler
A new family of miniature, surface-mount DC/DC convertors exploits all the benefits of ceramic substrate technology
Based around a ceramic PCB, the new NCX10S range combines high levels of power delivery with performance over a wide operating temperature range. The devices also feature compliant leg technology that ensures enhanced mechanical reliability by compensating for expansion and contraction caused by the different coefficients of thermal expansion between the convertor substrate and the PCB onto which it is mounted.

Murata to acquire power electronics operations
C and D Technologies has agreed to sell its Power Electronics Division to Murata for US $85 million cash
Devices from the new range achieve full rating in a small package without heatsinking and provide a direct drop-in replacement for Artesyn and Ericsson products.
Robust design means that NCX10S DC/DC convertors are able to supply large over-currents of up to 170% nominal output for short periods.
The NCX10S series is available with either 24 or 48V inputs and has an isolated 10W single output.
Operation at a fixed frequency of 400kHz makes the implementation of filtering easier, and a design that is free from electrolytic capacitors helps increase reliability.
With a choice of two industry standard 18-pin patterns, NCX10S series devices are versatile and easy to incorporate in customer designs.
Available output voltages range from 3.3 to 5.0V, with all units having 500V input-to-output isolation.
Internal overtemperature and load fault protection, coupled with a continuous rating to 10W at 85C makes the NCX10S series ideal for use in high availability applications.
Further features of devices from the new range include a number of versatile control options and a nonlatching current limit.
Overall package size is 44.55 x 28.40 x 8.10mm, and operating temperature range is -40 to +85C.
Available now, pricing for devices from the NCX10S range is $15 in OEM quantities.
