In March 2006, the Bluetooth SIG formally selected WiMedia's MB-OFDM-based platform for high-speed Bluetooth applications, one month after CSR publicly announced its alignment with this platform.
CSR has given the name Ultra Wide Bluetooth to the combination of UWB and Bluetooth.
'The WiMedia UWB common radio platform will form the basis for a future version of the Bluetooth specification that is set to offer ultrafast data transfer rates of up to 480Mbit/s', noted Eric Janson, Senior VP Sales and Marketing for CSR.
'The aims of the WiMedia Alliance of creating a fully interoperable, standardised UWB technology align perfectly with the challenges that Bluetooth has successfully overcome'.
'By combining WiMedia UWB technology with the concrete foundations of the Bluetooth standard, UWB will be able to see faster integration into more products and drive consumer adoption for the technology'.
'We believe that CSR's experience that has been cultivated in the development of Bluetooth products will be a solid addition to WiMedia's depth of expertise', commented Stephen R Wood, President of the WiMedia Alliance.
'We look forward to working with them as part of our efforts to integrate the Bluetooth work into WiMedia's common radio platform'.
