Wireless Internet link aids Globebusters: News from Cambridge Silicon Radio

Cambridge Silicon Radio has sponsored Cambridge couple, Kevin and Julia Sanders (the "Globebusters"), on their world-record breaking fastest motorbike circumnavigation of the world. CSR provided the equipment to enable the team to have remote Internet access and to send e-mail from around the world - making it possible for the couple to update their Globebusters.com website with regular status reports. CSR provided the couple with a Bluetooth enabled GSM phone connected to a Compaq Evo N600C notebook PC using CSR's BlueCore technology.

PC users were able to track the progress of the Globebusters via the GPS tracker on the CSR website and the Globebusters website (www.globebusters.com).

Kevin and Julia departed from Cambridge on the 5th May.

Riding for up to 15 hours, and at the incredible rate of 1000 miles every day, their 19 day 8.5 hour trip took them across 4 continents and 12 countries, and covered a total of 19,490 miles.

The couple hope to have raised at least GBP 10,000 for the SOS Childrens Villages charity.

The route took the Globebusters through France down to Italy, Greece and Turkey to Iran (where they had to ride through temperatures up to 45C), across to Australia and New Zealand and then from Alaska down to Mexico.

In Mexico, the couple ran into severe storms which almost caused the end of their world record attempt.

However, their perseverance paid off and they successfully completed their journey on 24th June.

Kevin Sanders commented, "CSR provided us with a great set of hardware for our challenge and we're very grateful for their generous support.

Despite the weather extremes, I was happy to see the gear continued to act as our link to home".

When asked why they took on this challenge, Kevin responded "Any excuse to get on a bike, feel the wind in your hair, smell the open road and test two-up motorbike endurance riding to the limit".
