CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) and WIDCOMM have announced the availability of a combined Bluetooth single-chip and software solution

CSR (Cambridge Silicon Radio) and WIDCOMM have announced the availability of a combined Bluetooth single-chip and software solution that allows PC OEMs to "one-stop-shop" when building Bluetooth into Windows-based desktops and notebooks. The agreement means that CSR can now offer to its customers a fully engineered hardware and software solution for PC applications that is prequalified to version 1.1 of the Bluetooth standard and includes full USB certification.

"Everything is provided from the antenna and CSR's single-chip silicon, to the Windows end-application.

This is the most comprehensive solution on the market and unlike competing offerings it is based on a single chip - including USB", said Simon Finch, CSR's Vice President of Strategic Marketing.

"The user can rapidly develop Windows-based products with Bluetooth capability and incur minimum design risk.

It's pre-qualified, pretested and fully supported - the software CD self-installs and users can switch it on and be confident that they have a working design".

Customers can order the complete bundle directly from CSR with a single CSR part number - BC111015BBD-01 - and get BlueCore silicon, lower layer firmware and a complete Windows application in a single package.

The new product bundle consists of WIDCOMM's BTW Bluetooth communications software stack for Windows and CSR's BlueCore01T chip, hardware reference designs, and complete application software with installers.

WIDCOMM's BTW is the most widely used Bluetooth software and applications package for Windows PCs.

BlueCore01 includes the industry's first integrated CMOS-based radio, baseband and microcontroller.

The combined product package supports the Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 and Windows Me platforms.

"The bundle is interoperable, pretested and ready to deploy.

Customers will benefit from the most robust and reliable Bluetooth solution available", said Andreas Malzach, WIDCOMM's Vice President of Software Business.

"The CSR-WIDCOMM co-operation has already resulted in multiple BQB-approved Bluetooth products.

This new business model will speed Bluetooth market deployment on a broad scale".
