Calsoft is to license, distribute and integrate the Macromedia Flash Player SDK and Macromedia Flash Lite into embedded and handheld devices in India, South Asia and US markets

Macromedia and California Software (Calsoft) have announced a distribution agreement under which Calsoft will license, distribute and integrate the Macromedia Flash Player SDK and Macromedia Flash Lite into embedded and handheld devices in India, South Asia and US markets. California Software Labs (CSWL), Calsoft's fully owned subsidiary, is a leading provider of embedded software engineering, BIOS and content development services.

Under the terms of the agreement, Flash Player and Flash Lite licences can be purchased through Calsoft to enable embedded system developers and OEMs to include Flash in their devices.

The agreement also provides for software engineering services from Calsoft to integrate and verify Flash Player into embedded systems, ensuring on-time delivery and superior product quality at a very reasonable cost.

'CSWL's in-depth knowledge and experience with Macromedia Flash Player, combined with their proven history of embedded software development services, makes CSWL the perfect partner to broaden the footprint of the Flash Platform and services in the mobile and devices space', said Daniel Brongiel, Vice President of Asia Pacific Mobile and Devices, Macromedia.

'We hope to continue the accelerating adoption of the Flash Platform for devices by leveraging the excellent engineering resource base of CSWL and enabling a greater volume of devices and embedded Flash customers to be brought on board in a more efficient manner'.

'We see a tremendous demand for Macromedia Flash products with our customers throughout the world'.

'The requirement for embedded devices and handheld devices to support rich content, applications, and interfaces is booming', said Michael Nottage, Vice President of Embedded Software Solutions, CSWL.

'Our partnership with Macromedia will allow us to expand the Macromedia customer base into new markets'.

CSWL will also provide consultation to Macromedia licensees on Flash Player porting, verification services, and content development services.

CSWL will provide system designers, Flash Player licences and embedded engineering services for development projects requiring Flash Player, and will also make small volume Flash projects more economical.

CSWL plans to focus on Flash Player integration, development, and optimisation for the following platforms: Windows CE, NET or Linux with a choice of browser.
