Design for test tools take on latest AMD processor
Cadence Design Systems has successfully ported its design for test (DFT) software to the new AMD Opteron processor and AMD64 architecture.

Cadence Design Systems has successfully ported its design for test (DFT) software to the new AMD Opteron processor and AMD64 architecture. Earlier, Cadence DFT tools had been used in the AMD Opteron processor design methodology. "Moving to the 64bit Linux platform was fast and easy", said Rahul Razdan, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Systems and functional verification at Cadence.
"We have been very impressed with the performance we are seeing out of our system running with an AMD Opteron processor.
With it, we have experienced a noticeable improvement of our DFT tool performance over earlier architectures".
The Cadence team ported the Cadence DFT TestBench tools to AMD64 architecture on Linux and observed substantial improvements in performance, speed and capacity.
Within two weeks of receiving the AMD Opteron processor-based platform, the Cadence team had returned working 64bit DFT TestBench code to AMD.
This helped AMD enhance the efficiency and performance of its design environment by running production test generation and DFT tool functions on its own AMD Opteron processor-based systems.
"AMD integrated the Cadence DFT TestBench solution as an important part of the design and testing of the Opteron processor - the latest technology in microprocessor design", said Rich Heye, Vice President and General Manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit.
"AMD used the Cadence DFT tool to help us achieve the coverage and quality goals required to bring the technologically advanced AMD Opteron processor platform to market".
As the industry moves into nanometer designs, tool capacity for large designs and computing time becomes increasingly important.
AMD and Cadence expect that Cadence DFT tools running on an AMD64 architecture on the Linux platform are ready to meet these challenges.
An industry-leading DFT TestBench tool, the Cadence TestBench is able to process very large and complex designs while maintaining high performance and delivering quality results.
Cadence acquired intellectual property associated with select IBM in-house electronic design test tools for incorporation into the Cadence product family in October 2002.
Today, customers worldwide are successfully using this production-proven technology.
