Three fifths of CAD managers operating within the electronics engineering industry feel positive about prospective revenue performance for the first six months of this financial year, according to recent research conducted by The Business Advantage Group, with only one in ten not feeling positive. These findings concerning the attitudes of the electronics engineering industry to CAD suppliers' websites came from telephone interviews conducted in March 2002 with managers responsible for CAD functions at 253 UK-based sites. The sample was taken from Business Advantage's database of 20,000 UK CAD/CAM user sites.

The research also found that a third of respondents expected that the volume of orders taken in the first quarter of the new financial year would be higher than that in the period January to March 2002; only 15% are expecting a decrease.

Only 8% of respondents said that their budget for product design and development processes would decrease this year compared to last.

Nearly one in five said that this budget would increase.

One in ten respondents said that they were definitely planning to invest in improvements to their electronic design processes in the next six months.

Chris Turner, Managing Director of The Business Advantage Group, observes: "This survey shows that the majority of electronic engineering companies see their overall performance remaining stable or improving in the short term.

These findings are consistent with broader assessments of the manufacturing picture in the UK".
