Staff from test laboratories across the Republic of China visited the UK recently to improve their knowledge and understanding of European certification and product testing.
This was organised through the General Administration for Quality, Supervision and Inspection of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) - the Chinese Government department responsible for this area.
The delegates spent time at the ITS ETL SEMKO laboratory in Leatherhead and at the British Electrotechnical Approvals Board (BEAB).
The visit comes as the Chinese government looks to use its membership of the World Trade Organisation as a basis for a new approach towards improving product quality and safety.
The introduction of the Compulsory Products Certification Scheme and the new China Compulsory Certification (CCC) Mark - which applies to a comprehensive list of electrical products exported from China, represent a significant change in the way in which manufacturing standards in general are addressed.
Commenting on the visit, Mike Vint, Managing Director of BEAB said: "We are delighted that the Chinese regulatory body is now taking such an active interest in domestic electrical product safety and that they have asked BEAB to undertake this training - this demonstrates the high regard for our operations both in China and around the world.
European standards provide the benchmark in this sector and the recognition of these on a global basis, will benefit everyone in the supply chain".
