Power Innovations has taken delivery of a further E-CAT test system from HF Instruments (now Accelonix UK). The KeyTek E-CAT (Expert Computer Aided Test) system is a versatile simulation platform for electrical surge, fast transient/burst and mains interruption testing. Worth GBP 32,000, this is Bedford-based Power Innovation's second E-CAT system purchased as part of an ongoing investment programme.
Power Innovations manufactures semiconductor devices for the protection of telecomms equipment from lightning strikes and supply telecommunications markets worldwide.
Differing national standards mean that products must be tested exhaustively to ensure access to markets across the globe.
The new E-CAT system is being used to prove products against Telcordia GR-1089 Core.
Koenraad Rutgers of Power Innovations explains: "The beauty of E-CAT is its modular configuration.
Our first system is configured to verify products against European standards, this second system is configured to test against US standards.
We did consider building our own system and also looked at another supplier but dismissed these based on time and cost.
We were using the system the day after delivery and have already added another product to our range as a result".
