Ultra-low distortion from function generator

Unlike conventional low-distortion generators using RC oscillators, the DS360 function generator uses a precision digitally synthesised source.

Unlike conventional low-distortion generators using RC oscillators, the DS360 function generator makes use of a precision digitally synthesised source. This method also provides precise frequency control and allows the generation of sine, two-tone, square-wave and noise waveforms together with computer control capability and distortion as low as -100dBc. Output range is 20uV to 40V peak-to-peak.

Because of this unique combination of features, the DS360 is ideally suited to a variety of audio testing applications where a low-distortion source is required.

The DS360 has the output flexibility associated with conventional synthesised function generators.

Sinewaves and square waves from 1mHz to 200kHz can be generated, as well as white and pink noise waveforms.

Standard two-tone output signals include SMTPE, DIM and CCIF.

Three standard output connectors, BNC, XLR and banana jacks, allow connection to virtually any kind of test set-up.

The frequency accuracy is 25ppm over the entire frequency range.

Frequency resolution is 1mHz or six decimal digits.

Frequencies are entered on the front-panel keypad or by modifying the existing entry with the knob.

Outputs can be selected as either balanced or unbalanced.

The unbalanced outputs can provide amplitudes from 2uV to 5.09V RMS into a 50ohm load, 2uV to 7.071V RMS into a 600ohm load, or 4uV to 14.14V RMS into a high-impedance load.

The balanced outputs provide twice the output amplitude range of the unbalanced outputs.

Output amplitudes can be specified in V pk-pk, V RMS, dBV, dBm or dB relative to a user-specified level.

The DS360 is also a flexible low-distortion precision sweep generator.

Sweeps can be programmed anywhere within the instrument's frequency range with sweep lengths ranging from 0.3ms to 100s.

Sweeps can be single shot or repetitive, and the instrument can be swept up and down in frequency.

The flatness characteristics while sweeping are 0.5% to 20kHz and 1% to 100kHz.

Sweeps may be internally or externally triggered, and a rear-panel TTL sweep marker is provided to synchronise external equipment to the beginning of the sweep.

Standard RS232 and GPIB interfaces allow the user to automate test procedures from any laboratory computer.

The status of any instrument function may be set and read via these interfaces.

A rack-mount kit is optionally available.

The DS360 costs GBP 2610 (plus VAT).
