The EX1810R, new from TTi, is a high-current single-output bench power supply in a compact case style, and is capable of providing 180W of power. It can provide current of up to 10A at voltages up to 18V in both constant-voltage and constant-current modes. High power efficiency allows it to operate without any cooling fan despite its small size of 140 x 160 x 195mm.
To match the high current capability, the power supply incorporates remote sense terminals which can eliminate the effects of connection lead resistance.
Sensing can be selected as remote or local by a front-panel switch.
The EX1810R uses mixed-mode regulation technology which combines switch-mode pre-regulation with linear post-regulation.
Special techniques are used to maintain very high efficiency while achieving noise levels that are close to that of a pure linear regulator.
Line and load regulation are both better than 0.01%, and output noise is less than 2mV, even at full power.
High power efficiency ensures that the unit remains cool without any fan noise.
High-resolution controls allow accurate setting of voltage and current levels.
The EX1810R incorporates separate four-digit voltage and current meters giving a resolution of 10mV and 10mA.
The meters use bright 14mm LED displays, and have an update rate of 4Hz, providing near instantaneous response.
The unit has been designed to meet the stringent requirements of relevant IEC standards for safety and EMC.
The output is intrinsically short-circuit proof, and is protected against external voltages and reverse currents.
Low heat output ensures that no part of the PSU suffers excessive temperature rise.
The EX1810R costs GBP 279 (plus VAT) in the UK, and is available from both TTi and its distributors.
