Providing design engineers with a robust rotary device suitable for panel mount configurations, TT electronics BI Technologies Electronic Components Division has developed a 27mm rotary potentiometer. Designated the Model P270, the RoHS-compliant potentiometer has a life cycle of up to 1 million rotations.
'The Model P270 rotary potentiometer's robust design allows it to be used in heavy duty applications', says Barbara Wiesinger, Director of Product Development for BI Technologies Electronic Components Division.
'The conductive plastic element's extended life cycle and the availability of an optional sealed package make the device ideal for a variety of industrial applications'.
Existing design wins include joystick controllers for handicap power chairs and aerial lifts; industrial motor speed controllers; industrial welder power controllers; industrial foot switches and pedals; directional speed controllers for forklifts; and hydraulic valve controllers for heavy equipment.

The Model P270 panel potentiometers are offered with a dust-proof option, as well as full seal, centre tap, and dual gangs.
The Model P270 conductive plastic potentiometer has a resistance range of 1kOhm to 1MOhm and standard tolerance to +/-10%.
Power ratings are 2W at 70C, with a maximum input voltage of 500V DC and dielectric strength of 1000V AC.
Operating temperature range is -55 to +120C.
BI Technologies will produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.
Typical pricing for a standard Model P270 rotary potentiometer is US $4.00 to $6.00.
