Pentium M based SBC hosts XP Embedded designs
Arcom has further extended its range of ready-to-run development kits by introducing a Windows XP Embedded option for its Apollo Pentium M based single board computer.
Arcom has further extended its range of ready-to-run development kits by introducing a Windows XP Embedded option for the Apollo - the Pentium M based single board computer designed for applications demanding long term product availability and high performance fanless operation.
The Apollo is built on power efficient Intel Centrino technology and is an industry standard EBX form factor (8 x 5.75in).
Arcom's award-winning development kit strategy has consistently allowed customers to quickly develop and implement Windows Embedded-based applications using a reliable production ready platform.
The development kit is an incredibly cost effective solution for developers, saving months of effort and allowing engineers to concentrate on value-added application development.
The Apollo development kit for Windows XP Embedded includes a comprehensive build of XP Embedded (SP2) pre-installed on an industrial grade CompactFlash memory card.
The development kit bundles the Apollo single board computer fitted with a 1.6GHz Pentium M CPU, 512Mbyte of DDR memory, Gigabit Ethernet and the 1Gbyte CompactFlash card.
Also included is an AC Flex-ATX PSU, full cable set, quick start manual, development kit DVD, USB/CF programming adapter, and an optional panel mounted 15in TFT colour LCD module and analogue touchscreen.
The Apollo includes dual independent display capability, dual Ethernet, dual FireWire (IEEE 394a) ports, six USB 2.0 channels and four serial ports (RS232/422/485).
The development kit is also supplied with an evaluation version of Windows XP Embedded Studio and Target Designer to allow developers to evaluate the Microsoft tools and create a customised (time-limited) operating system image using the component library supplied on the DVD.
This can be programmed and run from the CompactFlash card to evaluate the new image.
Based on a variety of performance benchmarks, tests demonstrate that an Apollo fitted with a 1.6GHz Pentium M CPU running Windows XP Embedded offers similar performance to a 2.4GHz Pentium 4 desktop system but with approximately one third of the power consumption.
